What Is Your Workplace Plan?

Please feel free to use the text below to develop ideas and strategy but understand it not meant to be professional advice.

Observe The Basics At All Times

  1. Wash Hands Frequently. Effective washing means washing with soap and rubbing vigorously for at least 20 seconds.
  2. Sneeze into a tissue or an elbow
  3. Avoid Touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth
  4. Wipe down touch points as often as possible
  5. Eliminate “Hot Desks”
  6. Send people for Covid-19 tests if they have Flu-like symptoms. Fever Clinics have been set up on the Gold Coast for testing.
  7. Ask people to self-isolate at home if they have any flu-like symptoms or if they have been in close contact with people that have flu-like symptoms.

Part 1 – Who are you and your workers coming into contact with?

Part 1A – Your workplace

It is prudent to have policy around access to your workplace for your workers and visitors. You may consider restricting access, especially to people Health Authorities deem to be at high risk

There are tools you can use to limit risk:

A: Mandatory Reporting

If you have workers who have been in contact with people thought to be at high risk by health authorities or people self reporting or observed with flu-like symptoms, especially a dry cough or fever, send them home to seek medical attention asap.

B: The sign-in book. Consider adding rows to your existing book or getting a new book. Add columns to help you determine their risk level.

For example, ask them to identify if they have recently travelled overseas and if so, where and when did they return? Have they come into contact with anybody with flu-like symptoms? Ask if they have flu-like symptoms.

Refuse entry to your workplace for anybody you feel is “high risk”

Sending Workers Outside The Workplace

Consider the supply of masks, gloves and hand soap for those that have to work in spaces not directly controlled by you.

N95 Respirator masks are recommended by health authorities as being effective against Covid-19.

Object Distancing – Try Not Touch Things You Do Not Need To

Ask workers to refrain from touching non-essential touch points. These include (where safe to not touch):

  • Railings of all sorts
  • Glass
  • Doors
  • Door Frames
  • Other Peoples desks
  • Other people’s phones
  • Lift doors
  • Glass mirrors and walls inside lifts
  • Walls
  • Sills

Unavoidable Touching

Consider the provision of gloves or for when touching touch points is necessary such as using: Note: When wearing gloves, best practice is to wash hands before and after wearing.

  • Telephones
  • Telephone keypads
  • Light switches seats and buttons
  • Toilet
  • Railings such as stair railings
  • Lift Buttons
  • Toilet seats
  • Taps
  • Office equipment
  • Kitchen appliances
  • Kitchen containers
  • Sinks
  • Dishwashers
  • Microwaves and ovens
  • Alarm keypads
  • Seat Armrests

Long Clothing Mandatory

Where people routinely contact touch points with arms or elbows, consider, if needed, relaxing uniform policy in favour of long sleeved shirts and slacks or trousers.

Stay at Home or Work From Home Policy

Reduce risk by having workers work from home – as many as you can manage with priority to those considered by health authorities to be high risk.

Need Extra Cleaning? – Just Ask

Many of our customers have already asked us to complete, extra cleans, or to do cleaning above their normal specifications in order to satisfy their need to protect their workers.

We have been able to accommodate their requests mainly on the same day.

We welcome your requests too!
